We have reviewed the recent literature to identify some of the evolutionary insights obtained from large scale resequencing datasets in Drosophila melanogaster. We focused on the latest discoveries about the ancestral origin of D. melanogasterPublished in Current Opinion in Insect Science. , and the spatial and temporal scales of genomic variation in this species.
