We have created a video about our field trip to Italy to collect samples of the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster. This was the first data that I collected as an independent researcher and it was possible thanks to a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant and the video has been funded by a Marie Curie Alumni Association Micro Media Grant. My lab is being build around this data so with this video we would like to stress the importance of field trips for biological research. The video shows how fruitflies are collected in nature. We would like to start a citizen science initiative in which students will help us collect flies at different geographical locations and send them to our lab for further analysis. We hope that this video will help to train students online.
