The Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab led by Josefa González is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant that aims at identifying the genetic basis, the molecular mechanisms, and the functional traits relevant for environmental adaptation.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the in silico characterization of candidate adaptive mutations identified in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster. Among others, the tasks involved in the postdoctoral research project include the integration of several genomic datasets obtained in our laboratory: RNA-seq, ChIP-nexus, ChIP-seq for histone marks, ATAC-seq, and HiC.

A PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, good programming skills, and good writing skills are required. Experience with state-of-the-art approaches to analyze the different genomic techniques used in the lab is required. Previous postdoctoral experience will be considered.
We offer a fulltime position for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary will depend on the experience of the candidate. The candidate will join a research team of four postdoctoral students, three PhD students, and a lab technician. Besides lab group meetings, the candidate will also join the Comparative and Computational IBE Research Program meetings. The lab also offers extensive networking opportunities as we are co-leading the European Drosophila Population Genomics Consortium (droseu.net) and the Spanish excellence network in adaptation genomics (adaptnet.es).

Bioinformatics postdoctoral researcher position APPLICATION OPEN

The Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab led by Josefa González is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF) in Barcelona, Spain.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the in silico characterization of the potential regulatory role of transposable element insertions in natural populations of Anopheles mosquitoes, and in available human genome sequences. Among others, the tasks involved in the postdoctoral research project will be the identification of transcription factor binding motifs and epigenetic marks present in the candidate adaptive insertions, de novo assembly of genome sequences, and de novo transposable element annotation. The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with a PhD student and a Postdoctoral researcher.

A PhD in Evolutionary Biology or a related field, good programming skills (command line usage, bash scripting), and good writing skills are required. Although not required, genome assembly and genome annotation experience will be considered as well.

We offer a fulltime position for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary will depend on the experience of the candidate. The candidate will join a research team of four postdoctoral students, three PhD students, and a lab technician. Bioinformatics PhD student position APPLICATION OPEN

The Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab led by Josefa González is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. The candidate will join a research team of four postdoctoral students, three PhD students, and a lab technician. Our laboratory is part of the Comparative and Computational Genomics Research Program at IBE, and it is part of the PRBB (www.prbb.org).

The PhD thesis will investigate the role of transposable elements in environmental adaptation in Anopheles mosquitoes. The tasks include de novo assembly of Anopheles genomes, de novo annotation of transposable elements in the newly assembled genomes, and identification of signatures of selection in the Anopheles genomes. The PhD student will work in close collaboration with a Postdoctoral researcher and will interact with other PhDs and postdoctoral researchers in the group.

A master in Bioinformatics or a related field, good programming skills, and good writing skills are required. Previous research experience will be considered. The lab offers extensive networking opportunities as we are co-leading the European Drosophila Population Genomics Consortium (droseu.net) and the Spanish excellence network in adaptation genomics (adaptnet.es).

Postdoctoral researcher position

The Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab led by Josefa González is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF), which is part of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRRB). The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant that aims at identifying the genetic basis, the molecular mechanisms, and the functional traits relevant for environmental adaptation.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the functional characterization of the candidate adaptive mutations identified in Drosophila melanogaster. The tasks involved in the postdoctoral research project are:

  • to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying candidate adaptive TE insertions, such as adding epigenetic marks and/or transcription factor binding sites.
  • to investigate the structural changes induced by candidate adaptive TE insertions.
  • to design and perform functional experiments such as stress resistance experiments (oxidative stress, heat stress, heavy metal stress, among others) and behavioral experiments (olfactory behavior, aggressive behavior, among others).

A PhD in Populations Genetics or a related field, experience handling Drosophila melanogaster stocks, experience with processing genome-wide datasets such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq or HiC datasets, and good writing skills are required. Previous postdoctoral experience will be considered.

Finally, the candidate will also be involved in the creation of mutant stocks using either CRISPR-Cas9 or gene-targeting by ends-out homologous recombination techniques.

Bioinformatics postdoctoral position

Lab manager/technician position at the Evolutionary and Functional Genomics LAB.
Status: SELECTION PROCESS HAS FINISHED 

We are seeking a lab manager-lab technician to join our research team at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF). Our laboratory focuses on understanding how organisms adapt to the environment. We combine –omics approaches and functional assays to identify the genes, molecular mechanisms, and phenotypic effects relevant for adaptation.
The position will provide technical support for research on all projects, perform lab management duties including ordering materials and supplies, report writing, and overseeing undergraduate and graduate student researchers.
The successful candidate must be familiar with or able to be trained in all methods employed in the lab, including Drosophila culture and handling, DNA and RNA extraction and amplification, qRT-PCR, sequencing, cloning, Drosophila digestive tract dissection, Drosophila embryo microinjection, ChIP-PCR, cell culture, and data management and analysis. The position requires attention to detail, good organizational skills, independence, and the ability to work well with and manage others. Evening and weekend hours may sometimes be necessary for time-sensitive collecting and experiments.
