New lab publication!

Vivien Horváth and Miriam Merenciano co-first authored a review on the relationship between transposable elements and stress. They found that TEs can be both activated and repressed under stress conditions. They also found that TEs are associated both with gene up- and down-regulation following stress. Although most examples point towards a beneficial effect of TEs under stress, some studies describing harmful effects have also been reported. Overall, it is clear that the relationship between TEs and stress is far more complex than often assumed.
